Just ahead of the official start of CES 2014, HP has now unveiled the HP Slate 21 Pro, a business-oriented update to the original Slate 21.
The HP Slate 21 Pro is still powered by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 4 CPU, and features a 21.5-inch 1080p display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 3 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 720p webcam, stereo speakers, and an SD card. There’s also Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with pre-loaded software such as King Office, Citrix XenMobile and Receiver support, and HP MyRoom for video conferencing.
The biggest change in the Pro model over the original is that you can actually use it as a monitor for your traditional PC. There’s also a USB 2.0 upstream port, making it possible to use the touchscreen with your Linux/Windows machine.

Now it might seem odd to think of an Android all-in-one as a business machine, but remember that not all businesses have power-user needs. The Slate 21 Pro could be the perfect tool for those that need a basic kiosk, library workstation, for educational purposes and the list goes on.
This is especially true when you consider that it also has the ability to work as a standard monitor.
So how much will the HP Slate 21 Pro set you back? The Slate 21 Pro is expected to go on sale in the United States immediately priced at $399. Honestly this isn’t that bad of a price for a touchscreen monitor, and the added bonus of Android could come in handy for those times when you’re just looking to casually play some games or check in with your favorite social networks.
The HP Slate 21 Pro might not be for everyone, but it does seem that quite a few manufacturers are interested in pushing Android into the desktop realm. What do you think, like the idea of an Android-powered computer or do you feel that Google’s mobile OS is best left on mobile devices and set-top boxes?
